it's almost here...thanksgiving in the united states. you know, the day most americans get together with friends and family to celebrate gluttony and genocide....er, sorry. i mean, to express gratitude for everything we have, which is too much food and football.
i think that you've probably figured out by now that i'm not a fan. it kind of sucks because i always spend it alone. it's not that i mind being alone, it's just that being alone is more attractive to me on that day than being surrounded by people eating food i can't (okay, won't) and watching a mind numbing sport that i have zero interest in. and the turkey pisses me off...i can't stress how much it really does, never mind the nauseating smell. bleh.
on a more positive note...
i think this year i'm going to actually try tofurkey. i know, right? most vegans swear by the stuff, but i've never tried it for two reasons. 1) there's a lot of old school vegan food out there that only tastes good to vegans with bad taste, and 2) there's something about plants trying to be meat that i find unappetizing, but hey, i'll give it a shot. i really miss having something to put cranberry sauce on...i love cranberry sauce. along with the tofurkey, which comes with the stuffing, and the cranberries, i also want to make mashed potatoes, onion gravy, maybe a green bean casserole or some sauteed carrots and asparagus and a pie. i want to make a pumpkin pie. it's my favorite pie. and yes, it's quite possible that i will be eating this by myself. you're all welcome to join me. i promise everything (except the tofurkey, i already said i've never tried it) will be delicious and there will be movies, not football, on television. oh, i also drink when i cook thanksgiving dinner so that could be fun too. heehee.
let the games begin!!

Bevin is going to California for Thanksgiving, so I will be alone. Most likely in the final throes of nanowrimo and/or repainting my room. I could take take a break to try tofurkey. Did you see the feature on it on Food Network last year? It's a very complex and a complicated process....
i did not see that. all i know is that i hear tons of raves about it so i'm willing to try it. if it sucks then we'll still have all those sides and pie :) yay!
Last year at Thanksgiving (I had it with a bunch of law school friends), we watched 300 instead of football.
Twice.
see, now that's how it should be done!
Well I think I am the cheese here in that I stand alone. I love the food, the festivity and the football on Thanksgiving.
Matt & I were going to spend it alone but turns out Bridgete's plans fell through and so we will be getting together with she & her dad either at our place or out somewhere awesome. Would be so cool if that place was Colorado & we could all 6 of us (or more if your mom is around!) could have a vegan meal together! I make a mean homemade cranberry sauce :-]
Have tried tofurkey. Let me know what you think of it.
you don't stand alone. i'm the odd duck out when it comes to thanksgiving and holidays in general.
some day i'm going to have a large enough kitchen and enough space to invite a whole bunch of people over for vegan thanksgiving and we will watch lots of movies. lots!!
Thanksgiving, for me, is all about the companionship. I mean, sure, there's the food, and I'm not saying I don't enjoy it...but I like food, so that's not surprising. I can see having an issue with the holiday if I was vegan, though...I may focus on the companionship, but there's no denying that it's a holiday centered around eating turkey. The focus on companionship is my choice, and I know that many people don't even think about how nice it is to just have people you care about to spend the day with. It doesn't even matter if I see them every day, or if the holiday is essentially the reason I'm seeing them that day. I mean, I suppose it's lame that sometimes we need holidays to force us to take a break and actually spend time with people, but I choose not to think about it that way...I choose to just enjoy the fact that I have those people in my life to spend the time with, holiday or not.
As for football, I've never watched the football game...I don't remember it ever being on, actually...which either means it wasn't, or I spent my time with other people who also didn't care to watch.
